Scent Profile: Bergamot, Lake/Aquatic Air Accord, Lavender, Juniper Berry, Alpine Herbs, Blue Gentian Accord, Pasqueflower Accord, Alpine Edelweiss Impression Accord, Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Fir Balsam, Clean Musk, Mineral Cobblestone Accord, Subtle Toasted Grain/Buttery Crust Accord, Blond Tobacco Leaf

This scent is proof that a fragrance can be both incredibly fresh and incredibly complex at the same time. With six different accords woven throughout an already stacked scent profile, Annecy-le-Vieux could have easily become overwhelming. Instead, it comes together as one of the most immersive and beautifully crafted scent journeys I've experienced in beard products.

What's funny is that straight out of the bottle I got something I absolutely wasn't expecting: Fruit Loops. Seriously. There was a fruity cereal vibe that caught me completely off guard. But once it hit beard, everything changed. The scent opened up into something far more sophisticated, layered, and atmospheric.

Rather than trying to dissect every individual note and accord, I think it's better to talk about the experience this scent creates. Inspired by Aaron Larson's trip to France, specifically Lake Annecy and the surrounding Alpine regions, this scent tells a story from beginning to end—and it tells it exceptionally well.

The opening is stunning. The bergamot and aquatic air accord instantly transport you lakeside. You can almost picture yourself waking up in a quiet French village as morning sunlight begins to spill over the horizon. You're sitting on a porch with a warm cup of tea while fresh lake air and hints of citrus drift through the breeze. It's clean, refreshing, and unbelievably pleasant.

As the scent develops, the mountains begin to emerge. Fir balsam, juniper, alpine herbs, blue gentian, and pasqueflower create this gorgeous Alpine atmosphere that feels both expansive and peaceful. Imagine standing among towering fir trees surrounded by wildflowers as cool mountain air carries their scent directly to you. Lavender plays a major role here, adding a calming quality that makes the entire experience feel serene and restorative.

The base notes continue the journey beautifully. Cedarwood, sandalwood, clean musk, mineral accords, and the toasted grain accord create warmth without ever becoming overly sweet. The buttery crust accord isn't bakery-forward so much as it is comforting—like the smell of fresh bread from a village bakery in the distance. The Edelweiss impression accord adds an airy floral-musky lift that keeps everything feeling light and elegant.

Then comes the final act.

As the scent settles, the blond tobacco leaf quietly begins to emerge. It's subtle, sweet, dry, and perfectly placed. Suddenly the entire story comes together. You're sitting in your cedar chair overlooking the lake. The mountains surround you. Fresh baked goods are wafting from nearby bakeries. Your lavender and juniper tea is steaming beside you. Then a neighbor steps outside, lights his pipe, and a faint ribbon of tobacco drifts across the breeze. Just enough to notice. Just enough to complete the picture.

Heaven.

What impressed me most about Annecy-le-Vieux is how masterfully it uses scent as storytelling. Aaron has always had a gift for creating vivid scent experiences, and Nick brought that vision to life flawlessly. Every phase feels intentional. Every transition feels natural. It's a scent that continuously evolves while remaining cohesive from start to finish.

Performance was excellent as well, lasting roughly 6-7 hours on me. In fact, I reapplied halfway through the day—not because I needed to, but because I wanted to experience the entire journey all over again.

Final Score: 9/10

I absolutely love this scent. It's unique, immersive, relaxing, and beautifully executed. My sincere hope is that Rugged Pirate eventually makes Annecy-le-Vieux available to everyone because this is an experience every beard enthusiast deserves to have for themselves.

A true adventure in scent. Well done, Aaron and Nick. 🌲 ⛰️ 🪻
