Scent Profile: Dark Strawberry, Burning Smoke, Polished Oud Woods, Atmospheric Musk

I have to admit, Crimson Oud XX caught me completely by surprise.

From the first application, this scent just works. The dark strawberry is the star of the show, but not in the artificial candy-like way that a lot of strawberry scents can lean. This smells like a slightly overripe strawberry—deep red, rich, juicy, and full of character. "Dark Strawberry" is honestly the perfect description because it still has that natural brightness you'd expect from strawberry, but there's an underlying darkness that gives it a completely different personality.

The burning smoke note is equally well done. It's present enough to add a charred edge and a little bit of mystery, but it never overwhelms the fruit. Think lightly charred wood rather than standing next to a campfire. It adds depth without stealing the spotlight.

What really makes this scent shine for me, though, is the oud. The polished oud woods bring this earthy, woody funk that makes the entire scent pop. It's just enough funk to keep things interesting while still allowing the strawberry and smoke to remain front and center. The atmospheric musk plays a supporting role, adding a soft haze around everything and helping tie the scent together. It creates this almost mist-like effect that surrounds the other notes and gives the fragrance a smooth, atmospheric quality. The blending here is honestly excellent.

Performance has been solid as well, giving me around 5-6 hours of longevity. I've actually found myself enjoying reapplying this one throughout the day just because I want to experience that opening all over again. Don't be afraid to refresh it when needed. Just remember to apply your oil and butter to a slightly damp beard to get the full benefits and best experience.

This scent is pushing an 8.8/10 for me, and I think I may actually enjoy it even more than Charred Peach Riot—which is saying something. I genuinely wasn't expecting to like this one as much as I do. It's fresh enough for summer while still appealing to those of us who enjoy darker, moodier fragrances. That's not an easy balance to strike, but Small Batch absolutely nailed it here.

If you're looking for a true dark summer scent, this deserves your attention. In fact, if you've never tried Small Batch Beard Co before, I'd say this is one of the best places to start.

Originally released as a Scent Lab creation and now available as Crimson Oud in the Oud Collection, this one absolutely earned its permanent spot. Go give it a try—you might be just as surprised as I was.
