I have to admit, I was skeptical of Ronin Sakura at first. Looking at the scent profile, I wasn't entirely convinced it would be something I'd reach for. After wearing it today, I can confidently say I was SO incredibly wrong.

Before even getting into the scent itself, I absolutely love the attention to detail on this release. "Sakura" translates to cherry blossom in Japanese, and the Japanese text on the label translates to "Rugged Pirate" and "Beard Company." Those little touches perfectly complement the inspiration behind the fragrance and make the entire presentation feel thoughtful and authentic.

Now for the scent... WOW.

Right from application, the combination of yuzu, Japanese cherry blossom, white tea, and plum blossom is absolutely fantastic. The cherry blossom immediately takes center stage with its light, airy floral character while the plum blossom supports it beautifully, adding depth without ever getting lost. The yuzu and white tea weave through everything, bringing a relaxing sweetness and gentle earthiness that makes the opening incredibly smooth and calming.

As it develops, the bergamot introduces a subtle citrus bite that helps break up the sweetness and florals just enough, adding a touch of brightness and sophistication.

But what truly surprised me was the Hinoki wood. I've grown to absolutely love this note, and Ronin Sakura showcases it perfectly. Hinoki isn't simply a pine-like scent—it's darker, earthier, and far more refined. It acts as the foundation of the fragrance, gradually steering the scent into more masculine territory while allowing the floral notes to continue shining. The sandalwood and apricot soften and sweeten the woodsy backbone, and every so often that apricot peeks through in a way that made me stop and appreciate the scent all over again.

The amber in the base ties everything together with a vibrant resinous warmth that makes the entire composition downright irresistible.

What surprised me even more was the performance. For such a bright, uplifting fragrance, I was shocked to get a very respectable 7-9 hours of longevity. That's outstanding for a scent that wears this fresh and vibrant.

After spending the day with Ronin Sakura, I completely understand why it earned the Captain's Cut title. This scent simply delivers at every stage of the wear. Nick and Curtis absolutely knocked this one out of the park and created something truly special.

Overall Score: 9.3/10

This is one of those scents that exceeds expectations in every possible way. I couldn't imagine a better way to smell on a Monday. Well done, Curtis and Nick!
